About: David Ammer is principal trumpet of the Michigan Opera Theatre orchestra, performing on a regular basis at the historic Detroit Opera House, and principal trumpet of the Sunflower Music Festival, an annual summer chamber music series in Topeka, Kansas. He is also a regular member of the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings, as well as the Flint Symphony Orchestra. He is a member of the 25-year-old Ann Arbor-based Today’s Brass Quintet, and a founding member of the Detroit-based Motor City Brass Quintet, whose debut CD recording, Christmas Vespers, has received wide critical acclaim.
David has been a featured soloist with the symphony orchestras of Ann Arbor and Flint, has performed alongside the Canadian Brass, and has appeared on multiple occasions with the brass section of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, both at Comerica Park prior to Detroit Tigers’ baseball games, and at Orchestra Hall for DSO classical and pops concerts.
A native of Massachusetts, David Ammer holds music degrees from Swarthmore College and Yale University, and has performed at over 600 weddings in two decades as a professional classical trumpeter.
